Q. What items are eligible for tax-free shopping? (免税対象となるのはどのような商品ですか?)
A.

At Shimamura Music tax-free stores, eligible items are divided into two categories: "General Goods" (Instruments, etc.) and "Consumables".
Please confirm the following rules and limitations for each category.
(島村楽器の免税店舗では、免税対象品は「一般物品(楽器など)」と「消耗品」の2種類に分けられます。それぞれのルールと制限事項をご確認ください。)

■ General Goods(一般物品)

Total spending must be 5,000 JPY or more (excluding tax).
*Examples: Guitars, saxophones, keyboards, cases, etc.
(合計購入金額が税抜5,000円以上であること。例:ギター、サックス、キーボード、ケースなど。)

■ Consumables(消耗品)

Total spending must be between 5,000 JPY and 500,000 JPY (excluding tax).
*Examples: Picks, polish, strings, reeds, etc.

  • Consumables will be strictly sealed in a special bag so they cannot be consumed in Japan.

(合計購入金額が税抜5,000円から50万円までであること。例:ピック、ポリッシュ、弦、リードなど。
※消耗品は日本国内で消費できないよう、専用の袋で厳重に密閉包装されます。)

*Combining Categories(合算について):

General Goods and Consumables can be combined to meet the minimum requirement of 5,000 JPY to 500,000 JPY (excluding tax), provided that all items are packed together in a special sealed bag that must remain unopened until you leave Japan.
(すべての商品を専用の袋で一緒に密閉包装し、日本を出国するまで開封しないことを条件に、「一般物品」と「消耗品」を合算して税抜5,000円〜50万円の要件を満たすことが可能です。)

Q. Who is eligible for tax-free shopping? (誰が免税で買い物をすることができますか?)
A.

According to Japanese Tax Law, "Non-residents" are eligible for tax-free shopping.
(日本の消費税法に基づき、「非居住者」の方が免税の対象となります。)

■ Customers with Foreign Nationality(外国籍のお客様)

You must have a status of residence of "Temporary Visitor (Short-Term Stay)", "Diplomatic", or "Official".
*(Your passport must have an entry stamp/seal showing this status, or you can use the tax-free QR code on the "Visit Japan Web" ).
(在留資格が「短期滞在」「外交」「公用」のいずれかである必要があります。パスポートに該当の証印/シールがあること、または「Visit Japan Web」の免税QRコードをご利用いただけます。)

■ Customers with Japanese Nationality(日本国籍のお客様)

You must meet both of the following requirements:

  1. Safely provide official documentary proof (e.g., a Certificate of Residence or a copy of your Family Register Supplement) showing that you have continuously maintained a residence outside of Japan for 2 years or more.
    (日本以外の地域に引き続き「2年以上」居住していることを証明する公的書類(在留証明や戸籍の附票の写しなど)を提示すること。)
    (The document must have been issued within the last 6 months prior to your entry into Japan.) (※最後に日本に入国した日から起算して6ヶ月前の日以後に作成されたものに限る)
  2. It has been less than 6 months since your latest entry into Japan.
    *(Note: You must have an entry stamp/seal on your passport to prove the exact date of your entry. If you use the automated gates at the airport upon arrival, you will not receive a stamp. Please make sure to ask an immigration officer for a stamp. Without it, tax-free shopping will be denied.)
    (日本への入国(帰国)から6ヶ月未満であること。
    ※注記:入国日を証明するため、パスポートに必ず「帰国スタンプ(証印)」が必要です。帰国時に空港の自動化ゲートを通過するとスタンプが押されませんので、必ず入国審査官にスタンプを押印してもらってください。スタンプがない場合は免税のお買い物をすることができません。)
Q. How do I shop tax-free? (免税での買い物方法は?)
A.

When checking out at a Shimamura Music tax-free store, please follow these steps:
(島村楽器の免税店舗でお会計の際は、以下の手順に従ってください。)

Required Documents(必要な書類)

  1. Your physical Passport containing the entry stamp/seal. (Copies are not accepted. Shopping tax-free will be denied without it.)
  2. If you have an international customer coupon issued by the shopping center, please present it along with your passport.

(1.上陸許可の証印/シールがあるパスポート現物。※コピーは不可。ご提示がない場合は免税のお買い物をすることはできません。/2.ショッピングセンターが発行するインバウンド向けクーポンをお持ちの場合は、パスポートと一緒にご提示ください。)

Tax-Free Procedure(免税の手続きの流れ)

Before making a payment, please inform our staff that you wish to shop tax-free.
*(Note: Tax-free procedures in Japan are processed digitally. No paper receipts will be attached to your passport.)
(お支払いの前に、免税での買い物を希望する旨をスタッフにお伝えください。※日本の免税手続きは電子データで行われます。パスポートに紙の書類が貼られることはありません。)

■ Procedure for In-Stock Items(在庫がある商品の手続き)
  1. Pay the full price including tax.
  2. Present your passport (or Visit Japan Web QR code) to the staff.
  3. Receive your packed item(s).
  4. Register your refund method (credit card, Alipay, etc.) via the "JPrefund" system using the QR code provided at the store.
    (Note: The tax will be refunded to your registered account through JPrefund. Starting from November 2026, the refund will be processed after your departure is confirmed at airport customs.)

(1. 消費税を含んだ金額(税込価格)を支払う。/2. スタッフにパスポート(またはVisit Japan WebのQRコード)を提示する。/3. 梱包された商品を受け取る。/4. 店頭で案内されるQRコードから「JPrefund」システムにアクセスし、クレジットカード等の返金先を登録する。 ※注記:消費税はJPrefundを通じて登録先へ返金されます。なお、2026年11月以降は、出国時に空港の税関で商品の持ち出し確認を受けた後に返金処理が行われる仕組みとなります。)

■ If the item you want to buy is out of stock (Back-orders)(在庫がない・取り寄せ品の場合)

Please consult our staff.
We do not offer international shipping to your home country. Tax-free shopping is only applicable if you can receive the back-ordered item(s) within Japan before your departure and carry them out of the country yourself.
(スタッフにご相談ください。当店では海外のご自宅等への国際配送は行っておりません。取り寄せ品における免税は、お客様ご自身が日本滞在中に国内で商品を受け取り、国外へ持ち出していただくことが可能な場合にのみ適用されます。)

Q. Important notices for tax-free shopping (お買い物の際の注意事項はありますか?)

Please read the following carefully before purchasing at our store.

Before Buying(ご購入の前にお読みください)

  1. "TAX-FREE SHOP" means that the 10% Japanese consumption tax is exempted. This differs from "DUTY-FREE," which exempts import duties.
  2. We do not provide information regarding customs duties, import restrictions, or origin of materials for foreign countries. Please check your airline's baggage size limitations and your home country's customs rules by yourself.
  3. [Attention for Instruments] Some instruments may use highly restricted materials protected under the Washington Convention (CITES), such as Brazilian Rosewood (Jacaranda). Please note that bringing such materials into your home country is heavily restricted or prohibited.
  4. Tax-free procedures can only be processed on the same day of purchase and at the same store.
  5. Product warranties are valid only in Japan. If an item needs repair, it must be sent to the manufacturer in Japan via our store. All international shipping and repair costs will be your responsibility.

When Departing from Japan(日本を出国する際)

  1. Do not open the sealed bag for consumables (or combined items). If you consume them in Japan, you will be required to pay the consumption tax at customs.
  2. You must take the tax-free goods out of Japan within your stay period.
  3. You must have the purchased items with you at the time of departure.
